The Joy of Water

The Joy and Necessity of Water

Don’t forget to increase your water intake this summer!  Not only will it help you get through those hot June days, but it will also contribute to your fat loss.  Why?  Basically, it comes down to this:  Your kidneys cannot function properly without enough water.  When this happens, the liver must take over the kidneys’ jobs and ignore its own.  Well, one of the liver’s primary functions is to metabolize fat.  When the liver is distracted with the kidneys’ extra work, it leaves little time for the liver to metabolize your stored fat.  Remember, not drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day is like not taking a bath for a month for your insides!                  The key to a healthy body and fast metabolism is lots of water!

Protein Alternative

Protein is essential to build muscle, which leads to burning more fat and creating a leaner and healthier body.  But you don’t have to enjoy T-Bone steaks daily to get enough protein.  Did you know mushrooms are called “the meat of the vegetable world?”  They contain several essential amino acids as well as many vitamins regularly found in meat.  Choosing ‘shrooms over steaks has another benefit:  fewer calories and fat!

Losing Weight

Not Losing Weight?

Don’t worry about how much weight you are losing, the important question is how much fat are you losing.  You can only lose about 3 pounds of fat a week and if you lose more you are instead losing valuable muscle.  Lots of us think that by not eating, we’ll lose weight-not so…by not eating we are telling our body to hit starvation mode and it will hold on to fat.  A rule of thumb for calorie intake is add a 0 to your ideal weight.  By eating every 3 hours your body relaxes and gets your metabolism working to give you the perfect body.  Just 30 minutes a day of strenuous exercise will convince your body to begin the work of losing fat.

Alternative to Tanning Beds

Alternative to Tanning Bed Dangers

Shockingly more and more people are getting skin cancer directly related to tanning beds.  Melanoma is on a sharp rise from a preventable cause.  Robert Dellavalle, MD, PhD, assistant professor at the CU School of Medicine and co-author of the study, notes the $5-billion tanning salon industry counts more than 2.3-million United States teenagers among its customers.  Whereas tobacco purchasers in all 50 states must be 18 years of age, only three states have restrictions on youth tanning use, despite widely accepted evidence that youth is the most critical period for UV exposure, elevating skin cancer risk.

“While teens may seek indoor tanning because tanned skin is portrayed socially as beautiful and healthy, they are putting themselves at risk for serious health problems,” Dr. Dellavalle said. “Indoor tanning equipment may cause burns, immune system suppression, drug- and cosmetic-induced photosensitivity and an increased melanoma risk.    The development of melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, is associated with exposure to high-intensity UV radiation or exposure to solar radiation at a young age.  The most serious form of skin cancer, malignant melanoma, is expected to be diagnosed in 59,580 persons in 2005.1 Melanoma is the most common cancer among people 25 to 29 years old.  UV rays from artificial sources of light, such as tanning beds and sun lamps are just as dangerous as those from the sun, and should also be avoided.

There is a healthy alternative to tanning beds called Airbrush tanning. Angie McCarl, owner of Fitness Spa says, “our Airbrush tans are the first in Georgia to use this fabulous formula made from aloe and sugar beets. It’s so safe you could drink it!  We offer the customer a golden tan without the risk of cancer.  In just 30 minutes you can have a beautiful tan.  Since Airbrush tanning is not a booth, we spray it on with no streaking or orange spots.”

Airbrush Tanning is one way Americans are keeping their skin save from deadly UV radiation.   For more information on airbrush tanning go to www.ptcfitnessspa.com or call 770-632-3595.

Fast Fat Loss

The Perfect Cardio Program For Fast Fat Loss

Fat loss is always a problem because there are so many restrictions in the diet you decide to take and so many exercises to do that it makes it impossible right? Wrong! Fat loss isn't easy but it isn't hard either, there are several factors that you must have in order to make your fat loss goal possible:

A Goal: You must have a goal! If not how would you know you've reached your actual fat loss goal? But remember, make it a real goal, don't expect to drop 50 lbs in a month.

Time of Exercise: The time you do your Cardio has a big influence in the way you'll burn fat, the best time is when you wake up and you haven't eaten anything, the body will burn much more fat if you do it at this time because it will have to take from the fat reservoir since you haven't eaten anything to take energy (Fat) from directly. Cardio can also be done when recovering from a lifting session, since the body is still burning calories you can take advantage and start your cardio there and burn twice as much.

Caloric Intake: Caloric Intake has to be moderated in order for you to burn fat, it's quite easy, and the key in losing fat is to burn more calories than you consume, the recommended caloric intake for a day is 2,000 but this can vary depending on your bodyweight. But for losing fat you may need to consume a range of 1,200-1,500 calories a day.
